Surface Treatment (Size Press)

The Right Uncoated Paper Starch Treatment Has Surfaced

Selecting the right starch to get the correct amount of starch pickup, and a continuous film for a superior barrier to keep inks on the sheet surface, is critical. Penford Gums are widely used at the tub, size press and calendars for their effect on the sheet strength, stiffness and surface characteristics. Frequently, the sheet properties are so improved by Penford Gums that a substantial reduction may be effected either in the size added, basis weight or in the quality of the sheet.
